What We Do
The UK electricity market, regulated by Ofgem, is split down in to four phases, Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Supply. The Distribution system connects the transmission system to the consumers within a region. IDNOs are networks embedded within the distribution system that own the ‘last mile’ of cable within a new development.
Typically, all new property developments will require a new electricity distribution network and those networks are installed by a qualified Independent Connection Providers (ICP) accredited to the Lloyds register National Electricity Registration Scheme (NERS).
As an OFGEM regulated Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) UDN adopts new electricity distribution assets installed by ICPs.
IDNOs are then responsible for the operation, maintenance, control, security and integrity of their own networks.
Consumers connected to an IDNO network will have the same rights to choose a supplier of their choice as they would if connected to a DNO network.
